Feature Matches
The Pinnacle match of European Club Football, the Champions League Final, takes place this Saturday afternoon, with a 12:45pm kick off. Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munchen meet in the first ever all German Final, which will be played for the second time in three years at London's Wembley Stadium. These two powerhouses have been dominant in the Bundesliga for the last few years, and now are set to show the World why German football is on the rise.
Dortmund won back to back Bundesliga titles the last two years, until Bayern unseated them this season with a record setting year. The teams met twice in league play, with both matches ending in a draw, leaving it anyone's guess who will come out on top here. Bayern who lost last year's Final by the slimmest of margins, thumped Barcelona in the Semifinals 7-0 on aggregate. They head in to this match full of confidence as a result. Dortmund will be without one of their best players, as Mario Gotze was unable to recover from a nagging hamstring injury in time for the Final. They have nothing to lose though, and you can count on their side to put on a great team effort. Any way you slice it this should be a terrific Final between two of the best Clubs in Europe!
The Colorado Rapids return home Saturday night to face Chivas USA. We have been lucky enough over the past few years to host a home match for the Rapids on the same day as the Champions League Final. There is nothing better than watching the most prestigious match in Europe, and then heading out to Dick's to support our hometown club. The Rapids managed a draw away in a scrappy affair with San Jose last week. They will be looking for three points against a Chivas side that started 2013 well, but have been nose diving ever since. Rapids Supporter Group C38 will be running buses from the Pub, and hosting a tailgate prior to the match (reservations can be made at www.coloradosupporters.com/reservations ).
One final note for fans of English Football, the Playoff Championship between Crystal Palace and Watford will be featured live at 8am on Memorial Day (5/27). This one off match will decide which Club earns a spot in the Premiership for the 2013/14 campaign. Breakfast and Cocktails will be served for this do or die battle!
On the Horizon
Next week we feature International Friendlies, as National Teams from around the World prepare for the next round of World Cup Qualifying. Highlight matches include England facing Ireland and Brazil, and the USMNT taking on Belgium and Germany. The Colorado Rapids are home to Western Conference leaders FC Dallas, and will look to avenge their early season set back against the Hoops.
